The Bund is a boardwalk along the Huangpu river with a great view of the tallest buildings of the city just across the river in Pudong. This part of Shanghai is unlike anywhere else I have been in China. In fact, I didn’t even feel like I was in China when I was there; it felt more like a European city.
One of my favorite moments on the Bund was when I happened to be by myself and looking at a Shanghai map. A boy approached me and asked in Chinese where I wanted to go. He pointed me in the right direction and then asked if he and his friends could get a photo with me. Their excitement to get their picture taken with me made this random photo shoot really fun. I got a picture too. When they left the thought occurred to me that it would be a fun activity for young Chinese kids to see how many different foreign tourists they could get their picture taken with in one night. Or see who could get in the most photos with foreign tourists. I wonder if anyone’s ever done that. Who knows, maybe I helped their team win the prize.
