July 8 Yes, the Three Gorges Dam is an amazing triumph of engineering, but today the summer heat  trumped its grandeur. I’m glad I had the chance to see it and I was even happier to get back on the bus in the air conditioning. In the city of Yichang I had five hours to kill before my train to Handan, and, rather than walk around and explore, I found an air conditioned mall with a movie theater and saw a movie in Chinese, just to get out of the heat. The movie was okay, though I’m sure I missed a lot. It was actually kind of fun to sit through an entire movie in Chinese to see what I could understand, which wasn’t much, but I enjoyed making up my own storyline.   It was great to get out of the heat for a few hours.
